Journeys in pollution units (click on image for larger view)

Distance is usually measured in miles. More recently however, with a shrinking world, many people have measured distance in time. People often ask “how long”, not “how far” due to the ease and comfort of travelling long journeys, as vehicles can convey people from place to place in a short period.

Perhaps it is time for people to look at their travels from a different perspective. Maybe travellers should be considering the real cost of their journeys to the environment. The road signs demonstrate the weight of Carbon Dioxide they are polluting the atmosphere with when travelling to various locations along the motorway.

I have represented my thoughts in the image that I have created with the road sign showing the distances in the weight of carbon dioxide (Kg CO2) that the average car will have used to travel to the various locations.
